Only after the team layer should you inspect categories such as paint points, fast-break points, points off turnovers, bench scoring, and assists. They describe mechanisms but can overlap. A steal leading to a transition layup can count as both points off turnovers and fast-break points, so adding those columns creates a fictional total.

End with the opponent comparison. Fifteen turnovers are not automatically disastrous if the other team commits 20, and 12 offensive rebounds mean different things against 25 misses than against 50. The box score is relational. Find two or three decisive stretches, not a highlight montage. For each, note the lineups, turnovers, offensive rebounds, shot locations, and whether the points came in transition or against a set defense. If a 12-0 run includes four live-ball turnovers, the mechanism is clearer than “wanted it more.” If it includes three contested threes, shooting variance deserves more weight.

Clutch data is another layer, not the whole story. The NBA defines clutch time as the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five.
